Zhou Yiping Champions Deeper China-Portugal Economic Ties

       On July 16, 2025, a delegation from the Portugal-China Chamber of Commerce for Small and Medium Enterprises visited the China–Portuguese (Spanish)-Speaking Countries Economic and Trade Service Center. The two sides held in-depth discussions and reached a strategic cooperation agreement aimed at strengthening bilateral collaboration in economy, trade, culture, and education.

Participants in the meeting included Li Chong, Deputy Director of the Executive Committee of the Guangdong-Macao In-Depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin; Zhong Yingyi, Director of the Legal Affairs Bureau of the Hengqin Cooperation Zone; Zhang Rui, Director of the Division for Reform and Policy Innovation under the same Bureau; Wang Jing, Acting Deputy Director of the Investment Promotion Division of the Economic Development Bureau of the Hengqin Cooperation Zone; Wu Yanxiang, Deputy Team Leader of the Preparatory Working Group for the China–Portuguese (Spanish)-Speaking Countries Economic and Trade Service Center; Zhou Yiping, President of the Portugal-China Chamber of Commerce for SMEs; Qian Ning, Executive Member of the Chamber’s China Strategy Committee; Shi Lixin, Director of the Yingke Portuguese-Speaking Countries Legal Service Center; Yin Shuyu, Executive Director of the same center; and Lara Lopes, Advisor to the Portugal-China International Foundation for Cultural and Educational Exchange.

The dialogue focused on concrete opportunities and pathways for deepening economic and trade cooperation between China and Portugal.

      President Zhou Yiping shared the achievements of the Chamber in facilitating business connections between Chinese and Portuguese enterprises, and expressed high recognition of Hengqin's strategic role as a hub for China-Portugal economic and trade cooperation.

Following the discussion, the Portugal-China Chamber of Commerce for Small and Medium Enterprises and   China–Portuguese (Spanish)-Speaking Countries Economic and Trade Service Center officially signed a strategic cooperation agreement, committing to deep collaboration in legal services, business matchmaking, and industrial cooperation.

        The China–Portuguese (Spanish)-Speaking Countries Economic and Trade Service Center is a non-profit institution jointly initiated by the Government of the Macao Special Administrative Region and the Executive Committee of the Guangdong-Macao In-Depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin, with strong guidance and support from relevant national ministries and the People’s Government of Guangdong Province.

The Center integrates diverse resources from governments, industries, and professional service organizations across China, Portuguese-speaking, and Spanish-speaking countries. Operated under market-oriented mechanisms and combining online and offline platforms, the Center aims to become a key hub for comprehensive cooperation between China and Portuguese- and Spanish-speaking countries.

The signing of this agreement marks the active integration of the Portugal-China Chamber of Commerce for SMEs into the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area development strategy, further promoting the sharing of business resources between China and Portugal, and jointly building a new platform for China-Portugal cooperation.

In addition, Lara Lopes, Advisor to the Portugal-China International Foundation for Cultural and Educational Exchange, expressed during the meeting that the Foundation will actively collaborate with the Portugal-China Chamber of Commerce for SMEs to leverage its platform in areas such as cultural exchange, educational cooperation, and talent development, injecting greater humanistic depth and momentum for sustainable growth into China-Portugal cooperation.

Looking ahead, the Portugal-China Chamber of Commerce for SMEs will work closely with the China–Portuguese (Spanish)-Speaking Countries Economic and Trade Service Center, drawing on their respective resource advantages to build a more efficient service platform for China-Portugal enterprises. Together, they aim to support Hengqin in becoming a new highland for China’s cooperation with Portuguese-speaking countries, and to jointly advance the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area toward a new stage of international development.
